The Global Payroll team, operating within the Chief Accounting Officer’s organization, is seeking an experienced U.S. Employment Tax Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of employment tax compliance and strategy, including payroll taxes, benefits taxation, and employment-related tax audits. This role requires an understanding of federal, state, and local employment tax regulations and the ability to manage complex tax projects.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead and manage the U.S. employment tax function, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Work with our third party payroll system to review the filing of all employment tax returns, including quarterly and annual payroll tax filings. Make adjustments to prior quarters and years for individuals and review for accuracy.
  • Develop and support the implementation of procedures and operating models to reduce the organization’s employment tax risks.
  • Collaborate with our People Experience, Benefits, and payroll teams to promote accurate tax withholding and reporting for all employees.
  • Provide guidance on the tax implications of employee compensation matters, including stock options, retirement plans, and executive compensation.
  • Work to support the payroll team by managing and resolve tax notices, audits, and inquiries from various tax authorities.
  • Stay abreast of changes in employment tax legislation and advise on the impact of new laws on eBay’s operations.
  • Be a mentor to a team of world class payroll professionals, providing direction and support in their professional development.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field is required. CPA, JD, or Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in U.S. employment taxes with at least 3 years in a management or consulting capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and processes.
  • Proficient in tax research and compliance software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and experience managing a team preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
