Employment Counsel

The successful candidate will form part of a busy and highly effective team of three senior lawyers who provide employment law support to the full range of businesses within Citi in EMEA.
- The role will report into a senior ELU lawyer.
- Would suit someone who is flexible and also has an interest in one or more of: European labour law practices, regulatory employment matters, and whistleblowing.
- To provide contentious and non-contentious employment advice within EMEA to a wide stakeholder base including the business, compliance, legal, HR, ER and management.
What you’ll do
The role will involve a number of different responsibilities, Advising on/drafting employment policies and procedures, Advising on expatriate employment law issues, Drafting bespoke amendments to compromise agreements; contracts of employment, assignments, TUPE clauses while reporting into a senior lawyer.
The day-to-day responsibility for managing their own caseload with appropriate supervision and strategic input. Managing employment litigation, liaising with internal clients and external lawyers through the litigation process.
- Providing general employment advisory support to HR, ER, compliance, legal, management and the business;
- Assisting with performance management, employee disputes, disciplinaries and grievances;
- Advising on restructurings, off-shoring, redundancies, collective consultations, TUPE transfers; sales and purchases (which often involves more than one jurisdiction);
- Assisting with data protection issues, e.g. subject access requests;
- Advising on contract, compensation and benefit issues, liaising with recruitment, HR, ER, compensation and benefits;
- Advising on contingent workers, status, disputes etc;
- Providing employment advice and co-ordinating external counsel during regulatory investigations;
- Regulatory advice: whether on remuneration, references, senior manager regime or local equivalent, legal entity management
What we’ll need from you
This challenging role will broaden and deepen the employee`s experience and knowledge of banking andfinancial services matters.
- Ability to broaden range of experience;
- Candidates should be qualified legal practitioners in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Co-ordinating employment advice in countries across the region including in Europe, the Middle East and Africa;
- Conducting internal investigations where appropriate;
- Ability to broaden depth of commercial knowledge and ability to think commercially;
- The successful candidate will deal on a day-to-day basis with colleagues in Citi’s other control functions (in particular, HR, legal, Citi’s in-house security services and Compliance)
- Relevant non-contentious and contentious experience should ideally have been obtained either in private practice with a City firm or in-house with another significant financial institution.
- Some understanding of banking/financial institutions or in house experience would be helpful.
- Some experience of working with non UK jurisdictions would be helpful.
