Purpose Statement
Procures machinery, equipment, tools, raw material, packaging materials, parts, services, and/or supplies necessary for operation of an organization. Indirect buyers may do some sourcing activity. Compiles and analyzes statistical data to determine feasibility of buying products and to establish price objectives. Monitors performance of suppliers. Evaluates areas of opportunity to leverage material acquisitions. Tracks data to keep informed on price trends and market dynamics. Negotiates with suppliers and analyzes suppliers’ operations to determine factors that affect prices and to determine lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules. Reviews proposals, negotiates prices, selects or recommends suppliers, analyzes trends, and maintains necessary records. May prepare request for proposals (RFP) and bid packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Computer and Systems Knowledge: Intermediate knowledge of key microsoft programmes in addition to SAP and Rapid Response
- Inventory Management: Understands and develops inventory plan for commodities under buyer code. Adhere to inventory plan throughout the year managing headwinds and tailwinds appropriately. Ability to balance long-term needs with short-term reqts. May r
- Project Management: Member of projects or sub-projects that are cross-functional and cross-network in nature. Directly responsible for actions and analysis to achieve results. Executes to project plans (including contingency planning) for projects with direction. Demonstrates accountability for action items and data provide.
- SI&OP participation: Manage purchase orders with the vendor ensuring sufficient inventory in house to met build plan. Operate within safety stock guidelines. Share forecasts with suppliers. Identify future supply risks. Understand demand changes. May req
- Support NPD, transitions, and acquisitions: Responsibility during TDP/PDP is limited to delivery tracking post-PO submission to supplier. DP responsible for placement of First Article PO during PDPDP to ensure standard cost is provided to Finance and updated on SAP prior to receipt of First Article material. DP to own creation of info record, material master (review), & source list. Ensure component availability for ramp/launch. Mgt oversight/coaching may be required
- Partner with Operations, Global Sourcing, Global Supply Chain Planning, Supplier Engineering, Supplier Quality: Proactively works with Manager to identify personal and business development opportunities, as well as networking opportunities. Seeks out opportunities to gain additional insight beyond current function to deliver great results for BSC. Thinks and acts win-win. Receives positive feedback related to engagement and interaction in team settings.
- AOP and results (PPV): Continues to build knowledge base on strategic implications for the annual PPV . Is responsible to place PO's at correct pricing to avoid unfavorable PPV (including tiered pricing). Mgt support and coaching may be required
- Purchase Order & Invoice Management: Ensure sufficient purchase order coverage in place to support committed build plan. Ensure inventory arrives on time and in full. Ensure invoice issues are dealt with in a timely fashion to avoid credit hold with supp
- MRP: Ensure there is sufficient stock to support requirements in line with MRP. Working with suppliers to accommodate increases/decreases in MRP. Work with senior team members/SAP BPL to identify and correct MRP errors. Mgt and/or mentor coaching and su
- Supply Management utilizing KPIs: Demonstrate understanding of Supplier Scorecard Metrics and provide data as required to populate and support supplier scorecard development and updates.
- VIP: Continues to build capability and actively contributes to planning and management of cross-functional, cross-site, multi-supplier, VIP implementations with Mgt oversight and coaching.
Special Position Requirements:
- 3+years of experience in purchasing, production or planning or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Master’s degree is a Plus
- Experience with SAP or MRP systems
- Experience in RR preferable
- 3 + years of experience in a related position
- Flexibility to travel, and flexible schedule to accommodate different time zones
- Strong communications skills with the ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Continuous improvement Experience
- Manage priorities / Multitasking effectively
- Proven Negotiation Skills
- Power BI Knowledge is a plus
