Legal - Soft IP
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategies to build a strong patent portfolio aligned with eBay’s business objectives.
- Collaborate with inventors across diverse teams to identify patentable inventions and innovations.
- Oversee the patent application process, from initial disclosure review to filing, prosecution, pre-litigation, and annuities review, ensuring all applications align with eBay’s standards and strategic goals.
- Work with outside counsel to manage a docket of domestic and international patent applications.
- Provide legal advice and support regarding patent-related litigation, licensing, and enforcement.
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and competitive analyses.
- Engage in defensive publication strategies to protect eBay’s business interests.
- Advise on strategic acquisitions and technology development with useful patent insights.
- Stay informed on industry trends, legal developments in IP, and competitive activities affecting eBay’s IP interests.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and membership in at least one state bar.
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in patent law, particularly in the technology sector.
- In-depth knowledge of patent prosecution and strategic portfolio management.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the e-commerce or technology industry.
- Enthusiasm for discussing and protecting innovation
- Self-starting attitude and ability to interact with and advise various Tech and Product teams
- Background in computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$108,400 - $186,400
