The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The person hired for the position of
Mechanical Designerwill create designs for leading-edge cable and connector assemblies. Daily activities will include 2D and 3D CAD Layout of cable, connectors, and assembly design. Additional activities include drawing maintenance (ECR/ECOs), project documentation, as well as conducting design reviews. Multiple opportunities for growth outside these responsibilities such as product development and project leadership.

  • Develop 2D and 3D designs for cable, connectors, and assemblies used in electronic systems and devices.
  • Maintain drawing documentation in a controlled system.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of mechanical design experience using NX CAD software in both 2D and 3D environments in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • High School diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years of mechanical design experience in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Experience with production techniques utilized for the manufacture of connectors, contacts, cable, and assemblies.
  • Experience with Autocad, and/or PCB designs and design tools is useful.
  • Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software tool
  • Experience with high speed interfaces, such as QSFP, OSFP, Slimline, PCIe, or Gen Z used in custom HS internal and external cable assemblies
  • Ability to interface with suppliers and customers, support existing products, and develop new products
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate as a key member of a global team, team leadership, ability to communicate clearly and concisely, with early morning to late evening availability for global conference calls
  • Self-starter, highly organized, able to multitask and work independently. Coupled with strong analytical ability, attention to detail will be instrumental to success.
