ower, Clean Energy Transition and Chemicals Credit Underwriter
Corporate Credit Underwriters cover large and complex relationships within North America, are responsible for all underwriting activities in the Power, Clean Energy Transition and Chemicals sectors, in partnership with Natural Resources Corporate Bank and Risk. This role reports directly to the Global Head of Natural Resources Corporate Credit Underwriting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Executes, aligned with global and regional strategies, all responsibilities regarding underwriting, including, but not limited to:
- Adoption of leading practices in credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring, including the end-to-end underwriting process, from early origination discussions, to development of credit approval memos, and senior approval forums
- Detailed review of financial analysis, due diligence, projection modeling, stress testing, risk ratings and other in-depth analysis performed by junior resources
- Review and approval of Credit Approval Memos (CAM) packages
- Partnering with Front Office on structuring and production of term sheet for new transactions
- Be familiar with Citibank credit policies and practices and regulatory policies, to assist unit in achieving compliance and satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Support ICM Underwriting organization on strategic initiatives/projects as required
SPECIFIC RISK EXPERIENCE:
- Senior credit approval authority covering large and complex underwritings, capital commitments, derivatives with multi-industry experience
- Experience in and exposure to global credit risk management standards
- Ability to understand capital markets products and complex financing and product structures
- Ability to provide strategic insights and strong sensitivity to macro, regulatory and sector specific issues
- Able to discuss and address issues associated with the allocation of risk assets and risk capital in partnership with banking and product organizations
CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS / BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP:
- Proven ability to understand nuances of local markets, local regulation, and the capabilities and practices of competitors
- Provides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships
- Proven track record of partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementation of best practices
- Facilitate relationships and partnerships with key clients in Banking and Risk and with key Regulators, Internal Audit, and control functions across multiple segments and geographies
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (preferred) - previous experience working in a financial institution with additional experience in a loan officer or underwriting role. (credit trained a plus)
- Advanced analytical skills including the ability to read and assess company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive analysis and projections
- Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Problem recognition and resolution skills
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
- Proficient in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word are preferred), including the use of graphs and charts, and Moody's financial analysis software
- Bachelor’s/Universitydegree, Master’s degree preferred
