This product domain focuses on our continuous integration systems, source code management platform, and fleetwide change automation. You’ll drive cross-cutting, end-to-end developer workflows – from code commit through automated testing and integration – as well as tooling that orchestrates updates and migrations across the engineering fleet. This includes improving build and test pipelines for reliability and speed, enhancing repository and branch management experiences, and providing automation frameworks to handle cross-organizational code changes (such as library upgrades or configuration updates) at scale.
You’ll innovate to ensure our CI, SCM, Fleet Automation tools are integrated into a unified, consistent ecosystem across all of Netflix engineering. Engineers should have a cohesive experience regardless of programming language or project, with well-paved paths and clear guidance for building and shipping their code. You’ll also work to reduce the time to market for platform improvements by enabling self-service and extensibility – for example, making it easy for teams to contribute new pipeline capabilities or integrate their own tools into the broader platform.
What You Will Do
Drive Product Vision and Strategy:Deeply understand and triangulate across customer needs, platform analytics, and external industry innovation to shape the vision and strategy for Netflix’s CI, SCM, and developer automation offerings, ensuring they maximize business and developer impact.
Roadmap & Alignment:Partner closely with senior engineering leaders and stakeholders to define a forward-looking roadmap. Align on priorities and trade-offs that support Netflix’s technology strategy while addressing the most pressing pain points in our build/test and code management workflows.
Execution & Delivery:Develop product roadmaps in partnership with engineering teams that execute on your vision. Clearly articulate problems to be solved, and work with teams to deliver high-quality solutions. See features through from idea to launch, with crisp definition-of-done criteria and a focus on user adoption.
Metrics-Driven Improvement:Foster a metrics-driven mindset for continuous integration and developer productivity. Define key success measures (e.g., build durations, failure rates, deployment frequency, code migration progress) and drive experiments or initiatives to continuously improve those metrics.
Industry Awareness & Build vs. Buy:Stay informed about advancements in CI/CD, source control, and developer tooling (e.g. GitHub features, build acceleration technologies, etc.). Evaluate opportunities to incorporate cutting-edge tools or practices and conduct thoughtful buy-vs.-build analyses to keep our platform state-of-the-art with a strong ROI.
Engineer Engagement:Create strong partnerships with Netflix engineers through regular outreach and feedback loops. Gather input via interviews, surveys, and usage data to deeply understand their workflow challenges. Champion the voice of the developer and ensure our solutions genuinely solve the right problems.
Problem Solving & Decision Making:Exhibit robust problem-solving and decision-making skills in both technical and strategic realms. Tackle complex challenges – such as scaling our CI infrastructure or automating a company-wide migration – in innovative ways. Leverage data where available and sound judgment where data is imperfect to make timely decisions amid ambiguity.
Technical Excellence & Reliability:Drive technical excellence in our CI pipeline and code management systems. Ensure our build/test infrastructure and GitHub platform are highly reliable, secure, and performant. Identify opportunities for automation and validation (for example, automated testing of pipeline changes, or tools to verify the success of fleetwide code updates) to boost confidence in the system’s results.
Prioritization & Focus:Source input from multiple channels (engineers, support teams, industry trends) and prioritize effectively to maximize impact. Balance quick wins with foundational investments, and user experience improvements with technical scalability. Maintain clarity on short-term vs. long-term goals, and adjust plans as needed to respond to urgent issues without losing sight of the long-term vision.
Cross-Team Collaboration:
What We’re Looking For
8+ years of Product Management experience (or equivalent in a related technical role), with at least 3+ years focused on developer platforms – such as continuous integration systems, source code management platforms, or other developer automation and productivity tools.
Strong technical understanding of CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and build/test automation frameworks. You are comfortable discussing topics like build orchestration, test reliability, merge workflows, and have a solid grasp of modern developer toolchains (e.g.,. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, artifact repositories, etc.).
Proven track record of managing and evolving a product portfolio and driving product vision and strategy in a complex, technical domain.
A healthy blend of deep technical knowledge with a customer-focused mindset and empathy for engineers. You can dive into the details with engineers one moment, and articulate user benefits and trade-offs the next.
Demonstrated enthusiasm for developer platforms, tools, workflows, and infrastructure. You stay up-to-date on industry best practices in DevOps/DevEx and enjoy thinking about how to make engineers’ lives easier.
Ability to connect customer use cases and pain points to innovative technology solutions. You think holistically about end-to-end experience and can craft a cohesive product strategy that ties together multiple tools and workflows.
Familiarity with platform ecosystems is a plus. You appreciate how open source communities and internal teams contribute to tooling, and you can envision enabling broader contributions to our developer platform.
Comfortable defining success metrics and using qualitative & quantitative methods to guide decisions. You use metrics, user research, and intuition together to inform priorities and measure impact.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You set clear expectations and can influence stakeholders at all levels. You are transparent and timely in sharing updates, and skilled at aligning diverse teams around a common goal.
