Citi US Branded Cards (US Cards) is a market leader in the credit card industry. US Branded Cards maintains its leadership position by delivering industry-leading products, advanced services and payment systems that address clients’ evolving needs.
As the leading Card issuer, Citi’ strategic relationship with payment networks is a critical component of our payments strategy. The position will help maximize strategic and financial value of the network partnerships to Citi in the context of evolving payments industry. This is a highly visible position that not only requires a thorough understanding of cards payments ecosystem and economic incentives of the ecosystem participants, but also evolving regulatory landscape and what that means for Citi.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, negotiate and manage high profile network partnership deals with payment networks that drive meaningful financial and strategic value to Citi
- Develop RFP/Marketing materials to pitch our business to Network partners
- Evaluate Network proposals to assess financial and strategic value to Citi
- Drive negotiations with the networks; Coordinate with key stakeholders (Products, Finance, Legal) to ensure Citi’s interests are represented in the negotiation strategy
- Project manage the deal cycle to ensure deliverables are completed in time by both internal and external stakeholders and key milestones are met
- Implement the network contracts to the fullest extent and track and monitor that networks fulfill their obligations to Citi
- Develop and track KPIs to ensure Citi is receiving and maximizing contractual benefits
- Negotiate any new partnership constructs or adjustments with the networks needed to address new opportunities or challenges
- Identify and champion new opportunities to support Citi’s strategic priorities leveraging networks services and capabilities
- Act as an escalation point for all networks related topics
- Assess and address new developments in the card payments ecosystem that impact Citi (for e.g., made by the networks, legislation or litigation)
- Become a subject matter expert on the new developments
- Leverage the industry knowledge and Citi’s business dynamics to understand various ways Citi will be impacted and develop recommendations
- Drive Citi’s work to address the new developments in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders (including Products, Finance, Legal, Operations & Technology)
- Understand the evolving payments landscape and stay abreast of current market environment and trends
Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Payments industry. Good understanding of card network dynamics and business models
- Experience negotiating commercials deals in financial services/ co-brand network deal experience a plus
- Proven success in executing large scale initiatives in a complex matrixed organization
- Ability to manage internal and external relationships to push forward business agenda
- Ability to synthesize information, prioritize business goals and drive results with a high sense of urgency
- Strong executive level communications, both verbal and presentations
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills
- BS/BA Degree or MBA
