Automated Inspection Engineer

As an Automated Inspection Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Design and develop automated inspection systems using expertise areas such as optics, image processing, and AI
- Implement and support automated inspection systems in a manufacturing environment, including travel to manufacturing locations and on-call support of systems
- Technology development for custom inspection and measurement applications with particular emphasis on opto-mechanical systems, machine vision, and automation
- Analyze current inspection processes and develop plans to improve detection accuracy, stability, and actionable response
- Working within a team setting to solve manufacturing challenges
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or science field (completed and verified prior to start)
OR
- High School Diploma (completed and verified prior to start) and Three (3) years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or production environment (private, public, government, or military)
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Possess expertise equivalent to that which would be obtained in a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
- Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Three (3) years of professional experience implementing automated inspection or machine vision systems
- Experience with 3M custom machine vision platforms
- Experience with Cognex machine vision platforms
- Experience with Zebra machine vision platforms
- Image processing, signal processing, optics, software, or electronics experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent networking skills, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
