The sports editor will use editorial judgment to source and select stories for sports coverageacross all the key areas of Apple News, with an emphasis on quality, accuracy, topic diversity,and liveliness. You have the ability write sharp and engaging headlines with the Apple Newsaudience in mind — and work with our copy editors to ensure your work meets all aspects of ourhouse style. The sports editor is an effective communicator who will maintain relationships witheditors at a variety of sports publications and help them achieve success on the platform. Youunderstand the critical metrics for your projects and — with News leadership — work towardthem strategically. Night and weekend work is required for this role.
- Strong editorial judgment, excellent headline-writing skills, and ability to make decisions
- when news breaks
- Experience using a variety of CMSs and a keen understanding of the tools that support
- state-of-the-art editorial
- Proficient with data and analytics and can responsibly incorporate user behavior into your
- editorial strategy
- Enthusiasm and history working in sports news and an understanding of what drives fan
- Demonstrated creative and innovative problem solving and a willingness to take the lead when needed
- Empathy and understanding in how to advocate for the editorial experience with peer
- teams like engineering, design, and business.
