What You’ll Do What You’ll Bring
- Familiarity with emissions abatement and VOC destruction technologies, such as regenerative thermal oxidizers, adsorption methods, and heat exchangers.
- Deep understanding of automotive paint shop workflows, including spray booths, ovens, and air handling systems
- Knowledge of local and national emissions standards, (e.g., EPA, BAAQMD, CARB
- Manage CapEx project lifecycle: Justification, specification / option analysis, approval, spending & budget, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership
- Manage external vendor scoping, communications, and schedules
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for paint processes including conveyance, robotics, assembly build cells, and in-station automation. Simulate process changes and new /existing equipment to optimize equipment implementation and benefit
- Documentation of automated equipment, and associated procedures. Including maintenance tasks / processes, spare parts, changepoint documentation, operator instructions, bulletins
- Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
- Support / assist Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures. Provide technical training to maintenance, production, and other internal resource groups
- Working in a hands-on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact, and associated challenges. Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality, and other groups as required and during production and ramp
- Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of proven experience in paint automation engineering, preferably in the automotive industry
- Environmental certifications such as CAQP, HAZOP, or equivalent
- Proven automation technology competence
- Certification & demonstrated understanding of machine safeguarding & equipment safety compliance
- Robotic mechanical and electrical trouble shooting skills
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks)
