Manufacturing Engineer

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Drive understanding of key customer requirements and ensures product testing is done in conformance with specifications.
  • Lead projects to develop processes, procedures, test equipment, and tooling used to produce and test final assembly products, related sub-assemblies and new products.
  • Collaborate with new product development team. Implement new test systems for new product designs or changes in existing designs; determine calibration specifications, functional and /or environmental test requirements and need for test equipment and fixtures.
  • Maintain and execute product verification and validation test procedures, test plans, and automated test stations. Also prepares calibration and test procedures and related documentation.
  • Supports and trouble shoots failures and continuous improvement of existing production test systems and procedures
  • Willingness to be on-call to support off-shift operations

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering and/or Science discipline (completed and verified prior to start)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Strong engineering & technical skills (pressure, flow, fundamental electrical principles, manufacturing test equipment, fixturing, testing software, pneumatic controls, PLC, I/O)

  • Coordinating project timelines, budgets, construction activity, and personnel to successfully complete assigned projects involving process improvement and/or automated assembly.
  • Defining and executing competitive bidding strategy
  • Specifying equipment performance and mechanical design criteria for automated assembly and automated inspection.
  • Leading automation projects that deliver products and processes of validated quality and performance while maintaining effective communication with project team, operations staff, and engineering colleagues.
  • Establishing accountability through understanding applicable codes and guidelines to ensure designs meet codes, guidelines, and standards.

  • Demonstration of effective equipment specification, and procurement for automated or robotic assembly applications. Can also demonstrate effective project management by showing results of project validation and acceptance criteria.
  • Implementing lessons learned and best practices in the form of poke yoke processes and result in reduced PFMEA RPN scores.
  • Determines priority of multiple project options that give the most value by thorough analysis utilizing lean and six sigma tools.
  • Prior experience with light assembly, assembly automation, robotic applications, material handling, or inspection equipment
  • Application of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to make data driven decisions that improve productivity and quality.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter ready to solve challenging problems.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration

Senior Electrical Engineer

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by designing, testing, and sustaining embedded systems. Our designs incorporate microcontrollers, analog circuitry, power distribution/management, displays, batteries, and other components found in portable, rugged, electromechanical products. You’ll work collaboratively with Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, Test and other disciplines as part of a combined integrated cross-functional team.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting advanced design and analysis of analog, digital and power circuits including ADCs, microcontrollers, displays, sensors, power supplies, battery management and control systems
  • Creating intrinsically safe circuit design, schematic entry, PCB layout, circuit simulations, and creating detailed test plans
  • Collaborating with sourcing, procurement, supply chain, and other enterprise functions supporting component selection/qualification, cost reductions and alternative sources
  • Entering and importing data into component libraries
  • Entering Bill of Material and manufacturing documentation into PLM/ERP/MRP systems, and creating Engineering Change Orders to commercialize products
  • Leading risk management activities to ensure design and process shortcomings are identified and appropriately addressed
  • Exercising system knowledge of embedded hardware and firmware
  • Selecting and specifying electronic components based on function, performance, cost, availability, reliability, etc.
  • Provide written technical specifications in a clear and unambiguous fashion
  • Apply knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, simulation, DVP&R methodology, statistical methods, and DFM to improve robustness and quality of electronic design

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of electrical engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical schematic design, circuit simulations, multi-layer PCB design and embedded system hardware design

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with design simulation and analysis tools
