The Infrastructure Sector includes a portfolio of high-profile projects that include international, national, and regional clients, contractors and various Local Authorities. Jacobs Highways team provides comprehensive consultancy and engineering services to the highways sector, covering the full spectrum of highway infrastructure requirements, from business case and project development, preliminary appraisal, and feasibility studies through to detailed design, implementation, operational management advice and operations and maintenance.
As a Lead Highways Design Engineer, you will be responsible for independently leading the design team and deliverables on assigned Jacobs’ roads, highways, and related civil infrastructure development project. You will be client-facing, offer support to the engineering team to develop suitable engineering options and solutions and provide leadership and mentorship to the team of designers on a different scale of projects. You will also assist with commercial, project management, engineering and design technical leaders to create opportunities for Jacobs to plan, develop, deliver and operate a range of projects and manage Jacobs risk on proposals and projects by undertaking engineering roles. You will also provide technical expertise across the civil/roads projects and includes involvement in the development of proposals.
In addition, your duties will be to:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians and apprentices within your own discipline working on a variety of projects.
- Responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs, and production of contract documents across a variety of projects.
- Help seek innovative solutions in achieving the best value in delivering our services.
- Help development of the team through the delivery of projects and commissions, providing technical and administrative support and leadership where required.
- Drive continual improvement of our deliverables by using digital delivery tools, Lessons Learned from other projects and Clients’ feedback.
- Responsible for the coordinated technical delivery, reporting and associated governance of the projects.
- Implement improvement measures and share good practice as applicable.
- Assist with the technical development of more junior staff.
- Actively engage in business development at Jacobs.
- Help to maintain a highly motivated team with specific attention to safety and well-being.
