Key job responsibilities
- Hire, develop and supervise leads and a large group of highly skilled technicians focused on early Kuiper satellite production, R&D programs and scaling output across multiple facilities. Includes annual reviews, career development and managing corrective and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate with other Kuiper leaders and manufacturing engineers to plan and coordinate daily tasks for technicians and activities of all operations with an ability to adapt to changing schedules and other dynamic priorities.- Independently perform integration and test of the Kuiper satellite and various complex subassemblies in a cleanroom and ESD controlled environment, including rigging and critical lifts of bulky, sensitive hardware when needed.- Author, maintain, and train others to all relevant process documentation, including Assembly, Inspection, Testing/In-Process Characterization, and Packaging Procedures.- Provide frequent feedback and technical reviews on designs, processes, tools and custom equipment used in both R&D prototyping and production environments.
- Improve and enforce area safety and reporting mechanisms through regular auditing and safety-related projects.Export Control Requirement:
A day in the life
This position requires a high degree of skill in many areas, including technical leadership, technician development, mechanical assembly, avionics integration, troubleshooting, rigging, electrical checkouts and environmental testing. In short, you will be responsible for overseeing a majority of the most critical tasks to build the Kuiper satellite, ensuring high quality, workmanship and safety standards are adhered to on a daily basis across the entire technician team. You will also help lead long term production planning, team organization, team building and hiring for essential roles across your team.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of professional experience leading a team
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical hardware assembly, test, and/or installation
- Must be able to work 2nd shift hours between 3pm and 1am
- Experience hiring, training and leading production and/or R&D teams.
- Experience implementing lean/six sigma principles in a production environment.
- Experience helping develop enterprise manufacturing systems and assembly lines.
- Experience in the aerospace industry, automotive industry, medical device industry, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environment.
- Experience in an ambiguous, fast-paced production environment.
- Experience working with FOD, ESD sensitive hardware and clean room requirements.
- Experience with forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment (including previous certifications)
- Skill in operating and manipulating machinery and various hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity.
- A demonstrated ability in reading/writing/creating/understanding technical drawings, work instructions, test plans and standard operating procedures
- Detailed knowledge of electrical, optical and mechanical systems, antennas, functional testing and satellite components
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environmentAdditional Requirements
- Willing to work 2nd shift, overtime, and weekend work as needed
- Able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive assembly operations
- Able to climb up and down ladders, work in tight spaces, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position.
- Able to lift at least 25 lbs. unassisted
- Must be willing to travel up to 5% to different sites and for training
