The Paralegal – ANZ will report to the Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ and supports the ANZ Legal & Compliance team in providing paralegal and compliance advice to our business in ANZ and ensures the right legal and compliance standards and requirements are met.
The successful candidate shall assume responsibilities for legal and compliance work, as designated by the Director, Legal & Compliance - ANZ.
In addition, as a member of the Asia Pacific Legal & Compliance Team, you will work with other team members, as well as colleagues from the global Legal & Compliance organisation, external counsel, headquarters and subsidiary staff and functional groups, as required.
Paralegal – 45%
- Maintain, update and roll out of template agreements in collaboration with cross functional stakeholders, e.g. Procurement
- Liaise with the board of directors, officers and external law firms regarding corporate secretarial matters
- Review, draft and/or develop non-complex legal documents (e.g. Non-Disclosure Agreements) and communications independently
- As required, contribute to the review and/or drafting of more complex legal documents and communications, under the direction of Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ
- Independently handle legal and/or factual research asrequired
- Assist with the management of legal issues on a day-to-day basis under the direction of Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ
- Assist internal legal review as part of our company’s medical-legal process for promotional materials according to local laws, and our company’s policies and standards
Compliance – 45%
- Provide advice and guidance independently or in consultation with the Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ, on compliance-related matters and inquiries for the business divisions within ANZ for our company through close collaboration with the local business practices officer and as designated by the Director, Legal & Compliance - ANZ
- Ensure the timely completion of all tasks delegated with minimal oversight/supervision by Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ
- Assist the Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ with the review of internal processes, documents and reports of our company in ANZ, and ensure compliance with the relevant internal and external regulatory framework, company policies, standards and requirements
- Assist the Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ in conducting internal investigations, where necessary, in collaboration with Global Security, Global Investigations and Office of Ethics, analysis and advisory activities
- Understands and proactively identifies privacy risks and gaps in the local business/function
Financial and Administration Management – 10%
- Support Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ in management and tracking of Legal & Compliance team budget and expenses, as needed
- Liaise with regional paralegal supporting the Asia Pacific Legal & Compliance Team to support budget and expense management for the ANZ Legal & Compliance function
- Raising purchase orders on behalf of the ANZ Legal & Compliance team for external services, as needed
- Assist the Director, Legal & Compliance – ANZ in the preparation and updates of Legal & Compliance related reports
What You Must have
- Bachelor or equivalent degree/qualification in Law required
- Substantial prior post-qualifications experience
- Prior In-house paralegal and compliance experience in a pharmaceutical company or other highly regulated industries (e.g. biochemicals, medical devices industry) highly advantageous
- Familiarity with the US FCPA, the Medicines Australia’s Code of Conduct, the Medicines New Zealand Code of Practice and local pharmaceutical related laws and regulations in the ANZ would be advantageous
- Relevant knowledge of legal principles and sound legal advisory skills
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with the business and cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written
- Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly, including ability to expound on legal issues to a wide range of audience
- Ability to provide practical and commercially focused solutions whilst consistently applying a high standard of integrity, professionalism, legal knowledge, and business ethics
- Technologically savvy, intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to use technology as an enabler for efficiency and effectiveness
