As a Senior Environmental Planner, you’ll use your skills and experience to support regulatory compliance, permitting and environmental documentation at the Federal, state, and local levels primarily in Colorado and other Western states. You’ll support a variety of transportation (including transit and trails), water, renewable energy, and utility projects. As a Senior Environmental Planner with us, you’ll have the opportunity to play a role in all stages of the environmental planning process, including performing alternatives analyses, researching, and writing technical reports for NEPA and SEPA documents, preparing permit applications, and participating in public involvement processes. This career path provides the opportunity to work on varying assignments that require high organization, attention to detail, excellent writing skills, practical experience, and working knowledge of NEPA, SEPA and other relevant environmental regulations. You will have opportunities to contribute, grow and learn while serving as a key member within the Mountain West Central department, consisting of highly skilled environmental engineers, planners, landscape architects, arborists, architectural historians, archaeologists, biologists, and environmental compliance professionals.
Technical/Functional Responsibilities:
- Collect environmental, social and/or economic data to be used in developing alternatives to study under NEPA and in assessing impacts.
- Lead processes of scoping, developing purpose and need, developing alternatives and preparing documents in compliance with NEPA.
- Prepare and/or contribute to NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
- Provide quality control reviews.
- Perform various aspects of environmental planning assignments, applying knowledge of environmental planning principles. Work independently, participate in setting assignment objectives, schedules, budgets, and deadlines. Work collaboratively with other team members.
- May provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Collaborative team approach internally and externally; contact with clients and public and regulatory agencies.
