Principal Associate, Project Manager-CI&I Strategic Initiatives

The CI&I team creates impactful community outcomes and positions Capital One as the most strategically bold, innovative, and mission driven financial institution through:

  • Fueling strategic community investments (e.g. grants, skills, loans)

  • Delivering insights, advice and resources that inform Capital One’s products and services

  • Activating the capabilities of “impact forward” associates

In this role, you’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in three key areas:

Build a Centralized Project Management Function to Unlock Team Enablement

  • You’ll take mission-aligned opportunities for Capital One and make them a reality through execution

  • You’ll work with early-lifecycle opportunities, adding definition to their scope and objectives turning them into tangible and purposeful delivery opportunities

  • You’ll manage large and small scale projects that have been prioritized by the organization including integration projects, and work related to other department level or enterprise-wide initiatives

  • You’ll establish appropriate governance over work as it matures to facilitate its progress, maintain the motivation of the team and to keep its stakeholders up to date

  • You’ll leverage your project management prowess to build infrastructure and operationalize repeatable processes and procedures

  • You’ll serve as a subject matter expert on the execution of strategic initiatives and projects in a well-managed, sustainable way

Harness Influence to Ignite Collaboration

  • You’ll partner with a broad array of internal partners to grow and demonstrate Capital One’s corporate identity and mission orientation to external communities

  • You’ll serve as strategic advisor supporting the day-to-day and longer-term objectives of the team, department, and External Affairs organization

  • You’ll be a transparent and motivated ambassador for the work of our team through in-person discussions and presentations delivered to audiences of varying size and seniority

  • You’ll build influence and impact that extends beyond the boundaries of our team through leadership without authority

  • You’ll thoughtfully implement frameworks that contribute to efficiencies without impeding creativity

Test, Learn, and Scale

  • You’ll monitor and report KPIs for your initiatives and projects and will be responsible for measuring and tracking those metrics, with an eye to adjusting and refining strategies as stakeholder and customer needs dictate

  • You’ll identify ways to improve, plan, design, and manage project plans and processes

  • You’ll relentlessly seek ways to automate, streamline, and document our work to build the capacity of our team, our internal customers, and partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or military experience

  • At least 4 years of experience in project management, process management, project delivery, or any combination of the three

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a for-profit company

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma certification

  • At least 1 year of experience working with nonprofits or startups on large-scale social impact projects

  • Experience in market research and analyses

  • Experience with complex stakeholder management

  • Experience in financial services

  • Experience in sales or other domains deeply dependent on the quality of relationship management

New York, NY: $128,000 - $146,100 for Principal Project Manager McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900 for Principal Project ManagerThis role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
