As anEnvironmental Scientist

  • Providing environmental support to 3M business units and facilities, including product responsibility and development teams.

  • Serving as an Environmental Subject Matter Expert (SME), including authoring of chemical environmental hazard summaries, authoring product risk assessments, evaluating alternative chemistries, and providing recommendations for reducing risk and environmental impact.

  • Reviewing and interpreting of environmental test data.

  • Providing technical guidance to other 3M groups involved with environmental, regulatory, and hazard communication to help ensure compliance with global regulations.

  • Supporting chemical registrations and governmental reporting requirements globally including authoring study summaries, exposure modeling and assessment, and preparation of final submittal documents.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution in Environmental Toxicology or Environmental Science, or closely related discipline

  • Three (3) years of experience as a practicing environmental toxicologist in a chemical or consumer goods company, a government agency, or the military, including experience in one or more of the following areas: preparation of chemical environmental hazard summaries, environmental risk assessment, and/or the conduct or design of environmental hazard/toxicity studies.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • PhD degree or higher in Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution

  • Experience reviewing, interpreting, and summarizing environmental study data, including environmental toxicology and environmental fate studies

  • Experience with product risk assessment processes

  • Experience with evaluation and classification of the environmental hazards/risks of chemicals according to U.S. and international regulatory standards

  • Experience with preparation and submittal of the environmental portions of chemical registrations globally

Work location:

  • Hybrid Preferred but Remote possible

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
