Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of process engineering tools to solve technical problems and create novel detailed designs for hazardous gas and chemical systems such as refrigerants, cryogenic gases, viscous fluids, corrosive fluids, reactive fluids, and flammable fluids
Provide process engineering support to operations to help resolve process bottlenecks and other long-standing issues
Provide technical expertise to the engineering/design team and other groups within Tesla as a subject matter expect (SME)
Lead front-end and detailed process designs including the following deliverables:
Scope development and Basis of Design document development
PFDs, P&IDs and 3D pipe design development, including pressure drop analysis, Aspen simulation where required, pressure relief valve calculations, and Pipe-Flo modeling
Sequence of Operations / Controls Narrative documents
Participate in field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution. This is not an on-call position
Review process design work performed by others on the Process Team to ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality, including P&ID’s, plan drawings, and single-line iso’s. Mentor less experienced engineers on the team
Review and/or update master piping and equipment specifications
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in hazardous chemical Process Design, Process Improvement or Operations within a high-tech industry such as semiconductor, specialty chemical, solar, battery, etc. A combination of experience with an owner operator and an EPC firm is highly desired
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas is preferred or the ability to obtain comity licensure within 6 months but is not required
Subject matter expertise related to OSHA requirements for hazardous systems and maintenance access, ASME pressure vessel and piping codes, NFPA codes such as NFPA 30 and 55, and relevant building codes
Ability to lead or participate in reactive chemical process hazard evaluations and HAZOP reviews of PSM-covered and other hazardous chemical systems
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo. Design engineers are not required to use Revit, but Revit experience is a plus
Ability to adapt, multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with evolving changes in design requirements
A positive, “do the impossible” attitude and ability to communicate with peers and stakeholders at all levels including piping designers, stress engineers, other engineering disciplines, customers, and executives
