Responsibilities
- Monitor the relation between cash commodities and futures markets, particularly in energy and agricultural markets
- Assess new products launched to ensure systems and relevant surveillance controls are prepared to accommodate the new products
- Review and approve applications for exemptions from position limits with minimal supervision
- Respond to inquiries related to position limits, open interest, product specifications and delivery procedures with minimal supervision
- Research data from a variety of real time and post trade systems to identify abnormalities, market surveillance breaches or potential rule violations
- Document detailed analyses of positions and trading activity
- Conduct investigations of potential rule violations by obtaining testimony, compiling records and drafting investigative reports for presentation to disciplinary committees
- Build relationships with market participants and provide guidance on Exchange rules
- Work with large, complex data sets
- Improve common processes to find efficiencies
- Collaborate with others on technology and systems to enhance operational processes
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance or Math
- 7 or more years of experience in regulatory or market surveillance roles
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Knowledge of relevant Federal regulations, policies and developments which impact market surveillance duties
- Knowledge of commodities markets, particularly financial and agricultural markets
- Knowledge of physically settled futures markets, deliveries, commodities and trading
- Experience in managing others
- Familiarity with data analytic tools is a plus
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter who can prioritize and meet deadline pressure
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, high stress environment
- Ability to communicate with market participants, federal regulators and executive management
- Knowledgeable of futures exchange operations, trading, risk management or regulations
