As a SRE Engineer, you will work in an agile, collaborative environment to build, deploy, configure and maintain systems for the IBM client business. In this role, you will lead the problem resolution process for our clients, from analysis and troubleshooting, to deploying workarounds or fixes. Working closely with our worldwide teams, you will have a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the latest technologies and be supported by a global team of IBMers to grow your own technical skills and develop your career. This role may require some attention after normal working hours in order to troubleshoot and resolve production issues experienced by clients. This role may also require shifting working hours as needed basis for follow-the-sun coverage.
Conduct day to day continuous administration of databases such as relational databases including DB2 on Linux-Unix-Windows, Administer DB2 utility and application framework and building solution for DB2. Install, upgrade and patch production DB2 databases. Install, upgrade, patch DB2 utility application framework products. Conduct performance tuning of high scale databases and clustered applications, fixing the issues reported in systems within the service level agreement as required. Experience with at least one major public cloud provider or large scale private/hybrid cloud using container orchestration.Experience with a modern configuration management framework (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, etc.)
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience in database administration;
- DB2 experience is preferred But Oracle experience is also beneficial and desired
- Basic understanding of scripting languages.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and concepts quickly.
- Understanding of software development life cycle and delivery process.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, while ensuring that commitments and timetables are met.
- Ability to partner with internal stakeholders to design operational solutions.
- Goal oriented, forward thinker that can provide solutions for complex technical problems.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, learning, coaching, analysis, problem solving and short term and long-term planning.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Production experience with DB2 LUW.
- Expertise in DB2 production performance tuning on Linux systems.
- Familiarity with change management workflows using tools such as JIRA and GitHub.
- Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL datastores (DB2 LUW, MSSQL, Oracle data services).
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible for streamlining operational tasks.
