United States, Colorado
904512663

10.04.2025
What You’ll Do

Process Engineering

  • The Process Engineering team takes on difficult challenges in processing and materials science to realize the full potential of next generation energy storage solutions, ensuring Tesla remains a leader in cell technology and electrode fabrication. The intern on this team will document observations and present findings to technical audience on routine basis. They will support the boulder R&D team through fabrication of small scale electrode coatings.

Materials Engineering

  • The Fundamentals Advanced Materials team support multiple, high-impact projects which will involve implementing existing techniques, developing new techniques, and analyzing existing data to characterize battery materials, determine degradation mechanisms, and optimize cell performance at Tesla. This intern will be responsible for supporting the development cell test plans to characterize initial cell performance, lifetime behavior, reliability, and identify critical failures and degradation modes. In addition, this candidate will help plan test resources, track test progress and analyze/report testing results.

What You’ll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field

  • Experience with electrochemical and mechanical evaluation of battery electrode analysis techniques (Arbin, Maccor, Biologic, or similar)

  • Familiarity with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials

  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar data analysis tool

  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and electrochemistry

  • First-principal physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and thermo-fluids engineering
