Your impact

In this position, you would ensure that the boiler and chiller systems operate effectively within their design capacities and/or capabilities by primarily assessing the condition of plant equipment, identifying and preparing a scope for the maintenance and repairs to equipment as needed, working with the Procurement Manager to secure parts and materials and then completing the necessary corrective and preventative maintenance work on the plant equipment.

The Boiler Plant Mechanic/Operator mechanic will also assist with operating the airport’s Domestic and International Utility Plants by monitoring control panels and panel boards and adjusting controls, valves, and pumps manually or by remote control to regulate flow, pressure levels and distribution. This work would also involve operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, engines, generators, and valves in the plant to regulate the HVAC system. Collecting samples and performing routine laboratory tests to ensure proper chemical levels may also be required.

To complete this work as a Boiler Plant Mechanic/Operator, you will be required to use lifts and ladders in the performance of your assignments, which may also be completed in a variety of weather conditions. The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally is required, along with experience using basic technology, such as a computer workstation and radio. Basic typing skills are required. The AAT Project operates 3 shifts daily on a 24/7/365 schedule. Other work scheduling requirements may also apply during extreme weather events. The Boiler Plant Mechanic/Operator reports to the Plant Manager.

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience with industrial or central utility plant operations and maintenance techniques and related equipment required
  • Ability to monitor Metasys BMS
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics according to diagrams
  • Ability to read specialized precision tools such as meter, gauges, chemical-mixing, and dye-injecting equipment, etc.
  • High School degree or GED
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License with no major infractions

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience with industrial or central utility plant operations and maintenance techniques and related equipment required
  • Military or maritime training program in the operation and maintenance of centrifugal, rotary, and screw-type pumps preferred
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • High pressure boiler operating engineer’s license preferred
  • Department refrigeration machines operator’s license preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited trade school, apprentice training program or equivalent required
  • Basic electrical course preferred
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License with no major infractions

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Working conditions in the work area can include indoor environments, as well as outdoor environments, which could cause exposure to changing weather conditions; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Physical requirements to perform work will include ability to sit, stand, stoop, twist, and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to maintain equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift, must be able to walk long distances throughout the facility, lift objects up to 40 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; work in prone position under vehicles or equipment; wear and use appropriate safety equipment; work alternate shifts to meet client needs.
