you will:
- Ensure the continuous and efficient operation of all utility systems and perform basic mechanical maintenance on steam and chilled water piping, cooling towers, condensers, and related components to support plant operations.
- Adjust controls to maintain optimal system performance and resolve issues proactively.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of all plant systems.
- Repair and replace parts on boilers, pumps, and HVAC equipment as needed.
- Operate and maintain Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) that control motor speeds in pumps, fans, and other equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot VFD-related issues and coordinate repairs.
- Ensure water treatment systems, including water softeners and reverse osmosis units, are operating properly to maintain the quality of water used within the plant, monitoring and adjusting chemical treatments as needed to ensure water meets quality standards.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in accordance with plant safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain awareness of environmental, health, and safety regulations regarding plant operations.
- Maintain accurate records of system performance, maintenance activities, and repairs.
- Report any operational issues, malfunctions, or concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Respond to emergency situations and system malfunctions, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to restore operations.
- Work closely with other maintenance personnel and departments to ensure smooth operations and minimal downtime.
- Participate in team meetings and provide input on operational improvements or efficiency gains.
You will make an impact with these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience operating and maintaining central utility systems, including boilers, chillers, water softeners, reverse osmosis units, cooling towers, and condensers.
- On-the-job or educational experience with HVAC systems, steam systems, and chilled water systems
- Must be able to demonstrate:
- Familiarity with VFDs, piping systems, and electrical controls.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Ability and willingness to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces and at elevated heights, and perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certifications or training in mechanical systems or utility plant operations preferred
- OSHA certifications or equivalent safety training
