Based in the Mid-Atlantic region (Philadelphia, Baltimore, or Washington, DC), you will have the chance to work on exciting and engaging small and large-scale infrastructure projects and apply the engineering skills you learned at school to transportation projects both locally and across the country. Depending on your specialty, experience, and interest, projects can range from designing structures to planning a clean fuels fleet transition to flood mitigation to bus and railcar procurements. In the process, you’ll work with some of the best Engineers, Planners, and Project Managers in the business.

Typical work tasks might include:

  • Developing technical drawings.
  • Assisting in the development and management of rail plans, feasibility studies, conceptual design documents, and service development planning for rail and transit projects.
  • Participating in stakeholder engagement activities, including meetings and workshops.
  • Helping to prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Attending project meetings and assisting in the facilitation of coordination with different teams, consultants, and clients.
  • Assisting in the coordination of projects from conception (feasibility) through preliminary engineering.
  • Providing support to planning and engineering staff members as needed.
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Transportation, Environmental, Construction Management, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Course work related to transportation.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment to develop engineering drawings and documents.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software (Microstation/Inroads or AutoCAD/Civil 3D).
  • Ability to utilize design manuals, as needed.
  • Previous internship experience.
