Apple Wireless Systems Engineer – Physical Layer Control

In this role, you will be a key member of the Systems Engineering team working on Physical layer control for 3GPP LTE and NR technologies. As a Wireless Systems Engineer, your day-to-day work will involve crafting and optimizing the fundamental control mechanisms that enable high performance cellular communication on Apple product.Your key responsibilities will include:Scope different physical layer control procedures in LTE and NR, identify performance trade-offs, and design innovative control proceduresIdentify dependencies between physical layer and upper layers to optimize control conceptsConsider end-user experience and scalability aspects as integral parts of algorithm design
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Communications Engineering
  • 7 years of experience developing wireless communication systems
  • Experience working with 3GPP LTE and NR standards, specifically RRC and PHY layers
  • Experience with log analysis, scripting languages, workflow automation, data analysis and visualization tools
  • Experience applying theoretical and analytical approaches to solve complex technical problems
  • Good Matlab, C/C++ and/or Python programming skills
  • Deep-knowledge of communication system theory and signal processing
  • Proficiency in English
  • 10 years of experience developing wireless communication systems
  • Experience working as a systems engineer at a tier-1 modem chipset company
  • Experience with modem chipset bring-up and integration processes
  • Experience improving user experience through technical optimization
  • Experience in E2E timeline analysis for time-critical algorithms
  • Knowledge of PHY Uplink channels and signals
  • Experience in link-level simulation for algorithm development and modeling (floating-point and fixed-point).
  • Experience design algorithms such as LDPC, Polar, Turbo encoder design, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairments estimation and correction, channel estimation, OFDM, MIMO detection, signal waveform generation and upsampling, etc.
  • Knowledge of key RRC signaling flows between user equipment and network infrastructure
  • Knowledge of efficiency analysis from physical layer to data plane and TCP/IP protocols
  • Ability to make informed design trade-offs considering power consumption, performance, and implementation complexity
  • Ability to assess performance impact under various constraints such as concurrency issues, hardware capacity.
  • Collaboration and leadership skills working in cross-functional teams
