As a Senior Software Engineer on the Merchant Experiences team, you will create a platform for PayPal merchants in a fast-paced, innovative environment focused on rapid prototyping. Your key responsibilities include developing scalable front-end applications using frameworks like React or Angular, collaborating with UX/UI designers, optimizing performance, writing clean code, and partnering with backend engineers for API integrations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
- Advises immediate management on project-level issues
- Guides junior engineers
- Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
- Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience building web applications.
- Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and at least one modern JavaScript framework (React, Angular, or Vue).
- Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand, Vuex).
- Deep understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility (WCAG).
- Familiar with build tools and bundlers (Webpack, Vite, etc.) and version control (Git).
- Experience with TypeScript in a production environment.
- Knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and performance monitoring tools.
- Exposure to design systems and component libraries (Storybook, Material UI, etc.).
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams.
Required Soft Skills:
- Provide leadership to others, particularly junior engineers who work on the same team or related product features.
- Proven experience delivering complex software projects and solutions effectively through Agile methodologies on a regular release cadence.
