Principal Hardware EngineerThis Principalwill play a pivotal role in the development and deliveryand differentiatinghardware acceleration solutions for Azureinvestigate opportunities to use custom silicon andprogrammable hardwareto customizefor strategic applicatiodevelopment ofReturn on Investment for various solutions, and drive consensus onacceleration strategies acrossin DevOps support, debugging issues in the fleet and using those learnings to improve the robustness of custom accelerator solutions deployed in the Azure fleet.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with the architecture and implementation of custom hardware accelerators and/or FPGAs?

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities
  • Create robust, scalable, secure, and extensible architecture solutions and/or verification plans that account for industry/competitive threats. Ensures customer/partner value for the hardware engineering aspects of a product.
  • Analyzeperformance and present results and insights to provide recommendations and path forward for the team and architects. Champion recommendations and defends functionality of decisions to architects and management.
  • Specifythe architectureand microarchitectureofaccelerators on FPGA and on custom silicon.Evaluate architecture trade-offs, performance, overall area, power, and complexity.
  • Adviseothers on the creation of single/multiple project implementation schedules andanticipatesproject implementation issues. Propose changes to project schedules and designs to mitigate risks.
  • Write internal device specification sheets. Suggest modifications for internal device specifications and data sheets based on theirexpertiseand anticipation of needs for hardware design and testing of future products.Identifyways to add value to existing products and testing procedures.
