Job Summary:
Reporting to the Toolroom Manager, the Toolroom Supervisor will lead a high performing team to deliver defined business goals and objectives and be responsible for the day-to-day management of toolroom activities within
designated area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the assigned tooling team including the management of resources scheduling and prioritizing of duties.
- Responsible for the professional development and performance management of assigned team, providing feedback when necessary.
- Responsible for the repair and maintenance of moulds including monitoring tool performance, completing investigations and performing root cause analysis of major tooling issues.
- Compiles and delivers reports from critical tooling information gathered.
- Establishes strong relationships with customers and suppliers in pursuit of continuous improvement and on-going business development.
- Controls and monitors budget/expenditure within the toolroom.
- Identifies and implements continuous tooling improvements for future/repeat moulds.
- Reports/escalates all issues to Toolroom Manager.
- Assists the Toolroom Manager in the development of tooling documentation and the compiling of maintenance procedures for each mould.
- Works with Production Group Leaders in troubleshooting mould issues.
- Solves, in conjunction with the Quality Department, customer related issues as required.
- Attends internal meetings to establish priorities.
- Liaises with external suppliers on the repair/replacement of tooling components and equipment.
- Assists the Toolroom Manager in the identification and development of talent within the team.
- Identifies, creates and delivers training as required.
- Ensures the capture of all tooling intervention information and data on CMMS.
- Researches and implements improvements to processes and procedures.
- Works autonomously within established procedures and practices.
- Facilitates and leads Lean Sigma projects.
- Complies to all site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training and regulations.
- Complies to all local site company policies, procedures and corporate policies.
- Acts in accordance with West’s Guiding Principles and adheres to the Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional duties at the request of the Toolroom Manager.
Basic Qualifications:
- Toolmaking qualification with minimum 8 years’ experience, ideally with time served producing injection moulds.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a high-volume moulding environment, manufacturing and/or repairing and maintaining multi cavity injection moulds.
- Advanced and specialized tooling expertise, typically developed through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.
- Excellent machining knowledge and skills.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks for self and team.
- Ability to build strong business relationships with all stakeholders.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering/management discipline.
- Project management qualification.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good understanding of the injection moulding process.
- Experience in maintaining hot runner systems.
- Knowledge of CMMS.
- Knowledge of tooling hydraulics, pneumatics and electrics.
- Proficient IT skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Experience in 3D modelling and drawing software packages (e.g. Solidworks).
Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Physical:
- Light – exerting up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force frequently constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of force greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
- Job-related activities that require physical activity:
- Must be able to stand/walk for periods of up to 1 hour.
- Must be able to lift equipment and tools up to 5kg up to 10 times per day.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs up to 10 times per day.
