What to Expect

Creating the physical infrastructure that powers our state-of-the-art data centers. As a Sr. Data Center Designer specializing in Layer 1, you will lead the design and development of critical connectivity systems—structured cabling, fiber optics, and copper interconnects—for large-scale compute environments. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, network architects, and field operations.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and develop Layer 1 infrastructure for greenfield data centers, including fiber optic and copper cabling systems and connectivity layouts
  • Review and optimize cabling designs and connectivity diagrams to meet industry standards and performance requirements
  • Identify inefficiencies in connectivity designs, proposing cost-effective solutions to reduce CAPEX and improve scalability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and integrate Layer 1 designs with advanced compute systems
  • Prepare drawing packages including site, floor plans, enlarged communication room layouts, equipment rack/cabinet layouts elevations, backbone schematic and infrastructure design details
  • Drive improvement projects to enhance system reliability, using risk analysis, performance data, and industry best practices
  • Utilize design tools such as AutoCAD or Revit to create detailed layouts and analyze infrastructure performance
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Center Design, with a focus on Layer 1 infrastructure (cabling and connectivity)
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, such as TIA-942, BICSI, or equivalent, and experience with high-density fiber deployments (e.g., MPO/MTP, DWDM)
  • Proficiency in designing and analyzing structured cabling systems, including capacity planning
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Professional certification (e.g., RCDD, DCDC) preferred but not required
