Application Engineer – Noise, Vibration, Harshness and Thermal


As an Application Engineer you will be responsible for providing engineering support for the general industrial and medical equipment market. This is an exciting position working in an attractive technical environment. This position requires an individual with strong leadership skills, who is a good decision maker with the ability to collect facts and separate symptoms from problems in the area of acoustics and thermal engineering. Typical development activities will take place in a hybrid office, Acoustic Technology Center, and in the field with customers.

As an Application Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading efforts to drive growth through customer collaborations, new application development, and new product commercialization

  • Providing increased coordination of field trials with lead customers or evaluating local competition and marketing practices

  • Replicating and developing high impact product/market application with a focus on new application development and efficient replication leveraging e-tools

  • Leading programs of major importance to Aearo’s interests leading to and/or supporting innovative application and extensions of existing technologies, products, or businesses

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering or related field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.

  • One + (1) years of experience in acoustics and vibration field in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Three (3) years of experience in acoustic and/or vibration control

  • Analytical experience in Finite Element Analysis utilizing Abaqus

  • Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) experience

  • Materials expertise in specialized damped foams or elastomers

  • Subject matter expertise in industrial acoustics along with measurement techniques and sound package materials optimization

  • Excellent project management organization and self-drive

  • Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills to act as liaison between sales and manufacturing, testing labs, and engineering

  • History of leading NPI projects or product development

  • Experience with UL and ISO standards

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
