What to Expect

The Supply Chain rotational program provides recent graduates early in their career the opportunity to develop institutional learnings in a fast paced, multifaceted Supply Chain organization. Throughout the program you will develop experience across Supply Chain Management, Supplier Industrialization, and operations that have direct impact on Tesla products and manufacturing sites.

The 18-month program will consist of three 6-month rotations in supply chain management, supplier industrialization, and material planning or logistics operations. The trainee will learn and obtain direct experience with best-in-class supply chain practices. This position will be onsite in Fremont, CA or Palo Alto, CA.

What You’ll Do
  • Supply Chain Management: Identify, benchmark, negotiate and procure parts from the supply base; learning to provide sourcing rationale for Make Vs Buy analysis, down selecting a specific vendor, based on Should-costing, technology, location, etc. Negotiate contracts such as NDA, GTC and PPA with vendors, work with Legal counsel for any alterations in the agreements. Create purchase orders for assets (tooling, fixtures), and parts; shadow Staff Supply Chain Managers (SCM) on commodity/supplier strategies and business reviews.
  • Supplier Industrialization: Lead internal Supplier Industrialization reviews for NPI (New Product Introduction) projects (new launches as well as improvements to sustaining programs). Evaluate the design for manufacturing risks and identify the feasibility of Manufacturing processes, monitor Product Yield and report out any program issues. Focus on implementing and improving quality specific metrics such as OEE, Cycle time, Throughput, Capacity, Yield; learn to approve and maintain documentations such as Supplier scorecard, PPAP and SCAR management for sustaining programs. Certify and ramp (for series manufacturing) sale-able vehicle components at Suppliers with a focus on conducting failure analysis and leading statistical process control activities for critical components.
  • Operations/Planning: Maintain accurate MRP data to reflect confirmed delivery quantities and due dates from suppliers, validate, troubleshoot, and resolve discrepancies. Work with external suppliers to establish the appropriate delivery schedules for individual components, specifying quantity and frequency targeting on-time delivery; coordinate with Supply Chain team and Logistics as needed. Collaborate with Supply Chain and Engineering to support material changes resulting from change action (CAs), plan for new material and minimize obsolescence of old material.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Supply Chain, Mechanical, Industrial, or Materials Engineering and prior internship/co-op experience or evidence of exceptional ability
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication with cross functional stakeholders
  • Ability to work onsite at Tesla’s Fremont and Palo Alto locations
