The Senior Health & Safety Manager, IH and Chemical works to maintain compliance, execute EHS programs, reduce risk and deliver EHS excellence at fixed facilities, service operations, offices and other GEHC entities, with focus in Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space, Explosion Safety, and Chemical Management Programs. They will lead compliance to requirements and develop consistent expectations. They will provide technical assistance in other areas as defined by their expertise or as assigned. This role reports to the Global Health and Safety Leader.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for compliance, specifically in the areas of Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space, Explosion Safety and Chemical programs while supporting other Health & Safety programs at fixed facilities, service operations, offices and other GEHC entities, including EHS support at sites and operations that do not have dedicated EHS personnel.
- Manages and coordinates a broad spectrum of initiatives simultaneously while maintaining superior customer service.
- Drives excellence in GE EHS programs including Framework, ISO and HOP.
- Successfully identifies, eliminates and/or mitigate EHS risks.
- Is a thought-leader and a key team member of the Health & Safety Program team.
- Delivers in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety risks and regulations presented by all operations; serves as the H&S. expert for applicable regulatory and industry standard requirements.
- Engages and leverages the Global H&S and Governance teams in the development of proactive solutions necessary to reduce future risk.
- Remains current with and/or develops understanding necessary of regional EHS regulations and GE EHS programs specific to assigned priorities or job scope.
- Serves as a coach and mentor to other EHS professionals to build the IH and Chemical Management pipeline in the region.
- Works with EHS training team as a subject matter expert to ensure appropriate technical and regulatory competency for EHS professionals and other operational employees.
- Supports all other EHS tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- For roles in USA - Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED.)
- For roles outside of the USA- This role requires significant experience in the Environmental Health & Safety & Health and Safety. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- 10+ years of EHS experience with a working technical understanding of IH and Chemical Compliance
- 10+ years overseeing the execution of EHS programs.
Desired Characteristics
- Ability to travel about 30% of the time
- Deep knowledge of GE's EHS programs and systems
- Extensive experience working with industry EHS organizations
- Strong understanding of legal requirements associated with EHS issues
- Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate and lead teams, drive change, and interact cross functionally
- Related EHS expertise outside of primary responsibility, i.e. LOTO, Electrical, MOC, Risk Assessment, Emergency Preparedness, other
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with internal and external customers, and all levels of the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate and conduct presentations with large and small groups at all levels of the organization.
