Job Title: Senior Manager - Investment Accounting – US Expansion – Service Delivery Center – Alpharetta

As an Investment Accounting Senior Manager at EY, you will advance your career by leading teams at the forefront of a growing EY managed service focused on investment accounting services for private funds. You will play a pivotal role in shaping how private funds and General Partners fulfil reporting obligations related to fund controllership, investment books and records, regulatory compliance, tax, and financial statements.

You will lead teams responsible for performing investment accounting services for a portfolio of investments, while also managing and contributing to the development of junior team members.

Your key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality work within timeframes and budget by overseeing multiple functional teams, including managers and senior analysts.
  • Define and establish strategic and tactical priorities for the team.
  • Foster a strong team culture for a start-up business within a Big Four firm by leading by example and providing an inspiring team vision.
  • Build high-performing teams by providing career advancement opportunities and inspiring collaboration.
  • Innovate processes for critical accounting activities, such as capital calls, valuations, and transaction processing by challenging industry standards.
  • Partner with leading industry investment managers to operationalize innovative product structures.
  • Provide thought leadership on business and industry trends, including regulatory developments and best practices for alternative fund structures.
  • Review team work products and offer coaching for continuous improvement.
  • Identify and mitigate risks at the highest level of escalation, keeping key stakeholders informed about progress and expected outcomes.

  • Expertise in investment accounting for private real estate funds: Demonstrated understanding of processes and ability to execute detailed procedures related to fund controllership, investment books and records, and financial statement processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory filing principles.
  • In-depth Knowledge of Investment Structures: mastery of private equity and private real estate fund investment characteristics, with a strong ability to apply regulatory and financial reporting rules to these investments, delivering accurate and timely reporting in accordance with industry standards.
  • Demonstrated client relationship management and comfort with a client service model, especially with executives and/or C-suite individuals

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 9 years of progressive work experience in fund controllership, encompassing fund valuation, capital calls and distributions, board reporting, and the production of audited financial statements, demonstrating a strong capability to lead and manage complex accounting functions.
  • People management experience with leading project teams and managing direct reports within an organization.
  • Budget management and forecasting experience.
  • Experience managing large teams and the ability leverage the team's talents in solving problems.
  • Analytical skills, especially an understanding of transaction posting, and investment trial balance debits and credits related tofund controllership, investment books and recordsand asset management.
  • Strong communication skills demonstrated through effective writing and presentations to executive clients and internal stakeholders based on critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in financial statement reporting and analysis.
  • Effective leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • An interest in working in an environment which encourages continuous learning, development, and identification of opportunities for improvement of individual and team performance.
  • A willingness to work in an office when production activities require but will have the flexibility to work remotely.
  • Leadership skills to define flexible work arrangements for the team to enable in-person collaboration, while still having the flexibility to work from home, enabling effective teaming and delivery of quality.
  • Experience and desire to redefine ways of working, leading by example, while inspiring your team to buy-in and build their careers.
  • A willingness to travel, approximately one trip per quarter domestically or internationally.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • MBA or CFA
  • Experience with software tools including document management systems, workflow tools, partnership accounting, investment accounting such as Yardi, Investran, or other investment sub-ledger software
  • More than 8 years of relevant experience and experience in an executive level role

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $105,500 to $305,800. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $126,700 to $347,500. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
