Our highly engaged team is searching for an Assistant Director with a focus on regulatory compliance. As an integral part of the team, this individual will be directly involved with developing, implementing and maintaining processes and policies to support the Firm’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including those related to financial crimes (anti-money laundering, economic sanctions, insider trading, etc.) and professional regulatory requirements. This individual will also serve as a role model by promoting and demonstrating commitment to risk management processes and policies within the Firm.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support and promote compliance with various Canadian laws and regulations and EY policies and processes, including responding to queries from EY personnel, clients and regulators.
  • Consistently provide high quality risk-appropriate solutions, guidance and advice to EY professionals and stakeholders.
  • Lead compliance workstreams – from development through implementation and monitoring
  • Track applicable regulatory requirements, implementing and updating policies and related processes and tools, and performing risk assessments, reviews, and testing.
  • Measure and monitor the effectiveness of tools and processes, conduct regular monitoring and reporting, solicit feedback from stakeholders and recommend improvements.
  • Provide support to the Compliance and Ethics leader, as well as broader Risk Management leadership
  • Work with EY Global/Area functions, other EY member firms, and local stakeholders such as EY’s legal team to implement policies, processes and tools within Canada. Manage other special projects on an as needed basis (e.g. support with acquisitions).
  • Develop and deliver training to new hires and professional personnel, as required, and awareness campaigns on a regular basis.
  • Foster a culture of compliance throughout the firm, promoting ethical behaviour and accountability


Skills and attributes for success

  • University or college degree and minimum four years’ experience in a compliance or legal function
  • Knowledge of requirements related to various Canadian regulations including but not limited to anti-money laundering, economic sanctions, insider trading and lobbying.
  • Familiarity with risk management and compliance programs and ability to understand policies and provide guidance on related matters
  • Project management experience and familiarity with the services provided by a multidisciplinary professional services firm
  • Knowledge of professional rules and regulations related to the practice of accounting and/or federal government contracting requirements is an asset
  • Excellent analytical reasoning and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) coupled with the ability to deal with confidential information discreetly and to handle difficult and demanding situations
  • Strong dedication to teamwork and client service
  • Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape
  • Knowledge of the French language an asset but not required.
