Working under the direction of the Head of Agency Screening, the Loan Screening Principal Associate role is to oversee the pre-qualification of new Agency loan opportunities and structure such loans with support from the Head of Agency Screening. This will consist of the preparation and review of sizing models and screening briefs for submission to Underwriting and the Agencies.
The role aligns with established Agency originators, and the Loan Screening Principal Associate engages with their assigned originator(s) to assess their book, identify emerging opportunities, and support them in screening new loan opportunities. From time-to-time, the Loan Screening Principal Associate will support assigned originator(s) in their sales functions by coordinating with borrowers, attending borrower events, and engaging in other sales opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Fully understand the procedural aspects of screening new Agency Loans from the time of request to Application / Term Sheet issuance and report details out to stakeholders and customers
Navigate deals through the screening process including coordination with various stakeholders on structuring, sizing, and closing to ensure an efficient process with the client
Correctly identify all waivers/risks associated with the transactions and provide mitigation recommendations
Review work of analysts assisting on prescreens
Partner with Originations to structure and price transactions
Higher level external exposure to borrowers to include kick-off calls, information gathering, and initial marketing etc.
Ability to understand complex transactions with complicated borrower structures and unique property/market characteristics
Responsible for screening submissions to Agencies
Accountable for high quality outputs on all screening memos to the Agencies and Applications / Term Sheets to the borrower
Assist in sustaining the company's relationships with contacts/customers to maintain and to increase business
Coordinate and influence the agencies with originations on deals, ensuring most favorable deal outputs
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ products and pricing in the markets served
Interpret Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac product sheets for all transaction types, including fixed, floating, supplementals, MHC's, student, etc
Develop and foster relationships with agency counterparts - take the lead in actively managing the agency relationships, through routine meetings
Ensure open communication between agency credit lines in order to remedy misinterpretation of agency guidance and expectations
Manage Screening Pipeline - manage the pipelines of their LOB, providing guidance during routine meetings
Attend Industry Conferences and Client Meetings in order to assist in the maintenance of crucial relationships
Identify Special Project Opportunities: In accordance with overall strategy, work to identify special projects, wherein either efficiency or credit effectiveness may be better attained
Understand and employ all policies and procedures of the Bank and the Line of Business
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or military experience
At least 3 years of experience in multifamily underwriting or agency underwriting or screening
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience underwriting or screening multifamily affordable housing or targeted affordable housing programs
At least 5 years of experience in multifamily underwriting or agency underwriting or screening
