Today

This role offers more autonomy than typical engineering management positions. While we have clear business goals and technical standards, you'll have significant input in shaping how commerce evolves at Venmo. We know the destination – making commerce more social and human – but you'll help chart the course.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of 8-20 engineers building and scaling commerce features used by millions of people and businesses daily

  • Partner with product, design, and business teams to turn ideas into shipped features that solve real customer problems

  • Own technical strategy for your area – making architecture decisions that balance current needs with future growth

  • Develop your engineers through regular one-on-ones, career planning, and creating opportunities for them to grow

  • Maintain high engineering standards while moving fast – code reviews, testing strategies, and operational excellence

  • Make informed trade-offs between competing priorities and communicate decisions clearly to stakeholders

  • Build team culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and learning from both successes and failures

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years managing engineering teams, ideally in consumer products or fintech

  • Track recordof shipping and scaling products to millions of users

  • Strong technical background – you can review code, debug issues, and guide architectural decisions

  • Experience with distributed systems and full-stack development (mobile, web, backend)

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional partners and communicate technical concepts clearly

  • Customer focus – you start with user problems, not technical solutions

  • Comfort working in environments where priorities can shift based on market needs

  • Experience building and developing high-performing teams

  • Strong project management skills and ability to deliver on commitments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with payment systems or financial products

  • Background in social, marketplace, or platform businesses

  • Experience at both startups and established companies

  • Understanding of small business needs and merchant tools

  • Track recordof building products from concept to launch

  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams
