What to Expect

We are looking for a Reliability Engineer for Tesla Bot Reliability Performance with a strong background in electromechanical systems. In this role, you will play a key role in driving the lifetime reliability of critical integrated technologies across multiple Bot systems. As a successful candidate, you will follow the reliability lifecycle of these products from concept to design, development, manufacturing, and field operation to design-in, confirm and grow exceptional reliability at every stage.

This role is highly engaging, and you will be working on one of our most exciting products. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to monitor and report the performance of our existing and emerging designs and architectures. You will be responsible for providing reliability analyses and identifying failure mechanisms as well as mitigations associated with the real-world performance of these architectures. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to monitor and analyze the performance of our existing and emerging designs and architectures. Your key responsibilities will include providing in-depth reliability analyses, identifying potential failure mechanisms, and recommending effective mitigations associated with the real-world performance of these architectures.

The level of this position will be determined at the time of the interview.

What You’ll Do
  • Apply solid knowledge of reliability methods and electromechanical systems to design appropriate field monitoring systems (onboard and offboard) for early detection of degraded or failed states, as well as demonstrate reliability growth

  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions to optimize requirement setting, test methods, and reliability spec

  • Work with manufacturing quality, service engineering, supplier quality and design teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures originating in testing and in the field

  • Generate process validation test plans to implement at suppliers, and drive root cause corrective action with manufacturing teams and suppliers to resolve production process issues

  • Drive critical reliability investigations on new technologies on field relevant missions to enable failure physics discovery and refine design requirements

  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of experience working on electrical systems / mechanical systems in a laboratory testing environment (including relevant internship or academic lab work experience)

  • Experience with burn-in testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Ongoing Reliability Testing (ORT)

  • In-depth knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning and EDX

  • Understanding of Highly Accelerated testing methods and governing equations for different types of acceleration models

  • Experience with developing reliability guidelines and inventing novel ways of reliability testing

  • Working knowledge of reliability statistics including Weibull analysis, and experience with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, etc.

  • Self-driven and focused individual with a proven ability to manage parallel tasks effectively, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances
