Your Career
We're seeking an exceptional and highly experienced Director, EMEA Income Tax to join our dynamic Tax team. This pivotal role requires prior experience as the Head of Tax for EMEA or a similar leadership position within a US multinational group. You'll bring a thorough understanding of relevant tax laws and the ability to offer strategic guidance on tax legislation and developments across a global scale. This role is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is expected to be onsite at least three days per week. You will report to the Senior Director, International Tax, Global Tax Planning, and Tax M&A, who is located in California, and continuously collaborate with our strong global tax team.
Your Impact
As the Director, EMEA Income Tax, you will be instrumental in shaping our tax strategy and operations in the region. You'll oversee all EMEA income tax matters, including planning, controversy and compliance, while serving as a strong partner to EMEA business leadership. This is a strategic role where you will:
- Build, lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of tax professionals, including two existing managers. Play a key leadership role within the Global Tax organization
- Develop and implement tax strategies that align with business objectives, aiming to optimize tax efficiencies across EMEA
- Create and maintain governance frameworks to ensure compliance with tax laws in these regions, working with executive and cross-functional teams to address compliance risks
- Serve as a key tax advisor to the business, drive business partnerships in the region and lead EMEA strategic projects
- Collaborate with the Global Tax team, EMEA accounting, finance, legal, and business teams, as well as outside service providers
- Providing strategic support on EMEA tax examinations and inquiries by local tax authorities.
- Supporting global expansion by partnering with regional leadership, leading the tax research of local country and regional tax requirements and recommendations
- Assisting in M&A and post-transaction integration activities
- Proactively monitor and interpret global tax developments that may impact the business, analyzing legislation (including OECD, UN Tax Committee, and Pillar 2 initiatives), participating in modeling scenarios, and effectively communicating potential impacts and strategic adjustments to relevant stakeholders
- Assisting with corporate tax issues related to global mobility, including Permanent Establishment (PE) risks, and overseeing employment tax risks
- Contribute to the design and implementation of automated tools to drive efficiency and process improvements. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function, leveraging technology and best practices
- Review of customer contracts for tax related items, aligned with our global policies and structure
- Support the company structure, including monitoring governance and the execution of DEMPE functions
- Collaborate closely with our Global Transfer Pricing team to implement, maintain and document our transfer pricing policies and practices in EMEA. This also includes participation in APAs we have or may seek in EMEA
- Assume overall responsibility for International income tax compliance and reporting of income tax. Work closely with our Tax Compliance team to provide support and guidance on regulatory requirements, supporting the quarterly tax provision process, and ensuring accuracy in current and deferred tax provisioning across EMEA. You'll also work closely with the accounting team to understand the provide a critical review of statutory accounts for any relevant tax matters
Your Experience
- 15+ years of progressive tax consulting, compliance, and reporting experience within Big 4 firms and multinational corporate tax departments (Tech Industry preferred). This includes extensive experience leading strategy, advising, driving, reviewing, and managing international tax compliance, reporting, controversy, and planning
- Deep international tax expertise with a US-headquartered multinational corporation, versed in US GAAP principles, and a strong understanding of international tax, transfer pricing concepts, rules, and regulations
- Excellent knowledge of income taxation of international operations and transactions, with the ability to lead the team in analyzing and responding to new tax statutes, regulations, rulings, and court decisions for planning and reporting
- Register Accountant or other recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, CPA) or equivalent European tax/accounting certification), or a Master's degree in Taxation/Law (LL.M. in Taxation)
- Strong analytical, research, organizational, and project management skills, including tax modeling, quantitative tax analysis, and the ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable insights for colleagues and management
- Self-motivated, accountable, and collaborative, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while working effectively as part of a high-performing team
- Demonstrated capability to manage, develop, and mentor staff in a collaborative team setting.
- Skilled in performing tax research using online tools (e.g., BNA, CCH) and consulting with external tax service providers and internal tax advisory team members
- Proficient in Excel modeling, experienced with large data sets and pivot tables, and passionate about technology and AI tool adoption
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
