Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.As a System Development Engineer on the DevOps team, you will design and implement software solutions that support the full lifecycle of spacecraft hardware development—from prototyping and testing to validation and qualification.You will work side-by-side with lab engineers and hardware specialists to build test systems, write robust automation scripts, create user-friendly tools, and help develop robotic and electromechanical systems that improve the speed, quality, and scalability of Kuiper's development workflows.This is a software-heavy role embedded within a hardware environment. You'll have the unique opportunity to apply your programming and systems thinking skills to real-world, physical challenges while learning from experienced engineers across disciplines.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop and maintain test automation scripts, user interfaces, data pipelines, and control systems for lab and test environments.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, lab technicians, and test engineers to understand requirements and translate them into software tools and solutions.
• Build robust Python- and Linux-based scripts and frameworks for automating lab instrumentation, test execution, and data analysis.
• Contribute to development of electromechanical systems and robotics used in spacecraft hardware testing and production.
• Own the integration of software and hardware in lab environments—troubleshoot systems, improve reliability, and ensure repeatability of tests.
• Assist with development of calibration tools, remote control interfaces, and hardware abstraction layers for lab equipment and test setups.
• Write clean, maintainable code with appropriate test coverage and documentation.
• Bring an ownership mindset and look for ways to make systems more efficient, reliable, and scalable.

- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- 1+ year working in a integrated Hardware/software environment
