The successful candidate will play a crucial role in improving transportation for all users in the City of Chicago. You will be responsible for developing engineering solutions to traffic study requests, reviewing Traffic Impact Studies (TISs) and plans for private developments, and coordinating with other groups within CDOT to improve traffic and transportation design.
The successful candidate must be self-sufficient, organized, and have the ability to communicate concepts clearly and concisely through writing and graphical representation. The candidate will report to the offices of the City of Chicago Department of Transportation and is anticipated to be full-time hybrid in-person and WFH. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required to support public engagement events.
Primary Responsibilities
Design transportation solutions for all users including bike facilities, pedestrian safety improvements, transit infrastructure, and vehicular infrastructure
Apply Complete Streets design principles
Apply federal, state, and local standards
Work with clients and stakeholders to find innovative solutions to their issues
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
2 to 5 years related experience in transportation design work
EIT or PE license or identified path to receiving them
Strong analytical, conceptual, organizational, and communication skills
Ideally, you’ll also have:
Experience with Microstation and Synchro softwares
Design experience with bicycle and pedestrian facilities in complex urban environments
Familiarity with CDOT and IDOT design standards
