As a Building Mechanical Engineer at Jacobs, you’ll be at the cutting edge of our efforts to bring innovation and excellence to some of the most exciting facilities projects in the region. You’ll use your exceptional design and analytical skills to lead the planning and design of mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler) systems primarily for industrial facilities for water and wastewater projects, but you’ll also contribute to federal and military programs, industrial, and institutional projects. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and mentor less experienced engineers as you deliver critical project work. You’ll prepare construction drawings and specifications for submission to clients, as well as provide jurisdictional plan checks and permitting support. Engineered systems you’ll be working with include package systems, central plants, air distribution, hydronic systems, plumbing systems, and controls. Knowledge of fire protection systems is also desirable.
You’ll also have the opportunity to:
• Design complete HVAC systems, including package type and central plants.
• Design complete plumbing systems, including utility and potable distribution systems, drainage systems, and miscellaneous systems such as compressed air and natural gas.
• Design fire protection systems using a performance system approach.
• Perform calculations for design, such as HVAC loads, duct and pipe sizing, life-cycle costs, and energy analyses.
• Prepare calculations for Plumbing systems, including water and drainage flows, water heater sizing and pump sizing and selection.
• Select equipment, coordinate with equipment vendors, and edit specifications.
• Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.
• Manage and coordinate work with engineers and technicians of other disciplines and architects.
• Lead meetings and communicate with clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders to establish project needs and discussdesign issues .
• Manage quality and schedule of work and interface with clients.
• Support field staff during construction phase of projects, including responding to submittal reviews and requests for information.
• Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is preferred, but consideration will be given to candidates with degrees in other fields of engineering.
• 5-15 years producing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design drawings and specifications for construction.
• PE License, or ability to obtain immediately upon hire.
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IBC, etc.
• Good writing skills and experience preparing technical specifications and reports.
• Willingness to learn new skills and practices as needed.
• Carrier HAP or Trane Trace experience is desirable, but not required.
