A Group Head of Wholesale Credit Strategy & Execution manages teams of senior credit management professionals through a team of seasoned senior managers. The job requires subject matter expertise of wholesale credit and a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories, controls, quality assurance, and practices relevant to wholesale lending well as practical experience of multiple business cycles. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the ICM function within Citi’s broader strategic objectives, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in the operating models of wholesale lending, business lines , and credit risk management. Excellent communication skills required to influence a wide range of audiences. The occupant will lead both internal and external negotiations to ensure that ICM delivers a strong and coordinated credit process for Banking, driving a strong culture of controls and risk management. Wholesale Credit Strategy and Execution teams across the global execute ICM’s strategies globally in support of all wholesale lending businesses. Occupants will provide direction and input into strategic decisions affecting all of wholesale lending.
Responsibilities:
- Directs, designs and implements initiatives across wholesale lending particularly as these apply to:
- Operating Model and Policy improvements to drive efficiencies and excellence in client execution
- Directing technology requirements to automate the WCR Operating Model compelling stronger and more reliable client outcomes and data improvements driving towards a sound control environment
- Owning or contributing to Regulatory Remediations and Internal Credit Related Issues closures with a focus on sustainable and efficient solutions that best serve clients while sustaining safety and soundness
- Serves as a critical senior stakeholder to drive execution across the various ICM pillars and facilitate client focus in driving solutions
- Serve as a primary liaison with key stakeholders in the Citi Businesses and 2LOD on portfolio of broader enterprise initiatives and on applicable internal forums and committees
- Manages reengineering initiatives and operational strategies to drive efficiency improvements and industry best practices across all ICM verticals
- Manages multiple teams of senior professionals through other senior managers
- Engages in a wide range of diverse activities that require strategic vision and analysis and typically thinks beyond the existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas that ultimately affect wholesale lending
- Develops medium- to long-term plans and executes functional strategies for wholesale lending in coordination across other units in the 1LOD and 2LOD and provides input into strategic decisions affecting wholesale lending globally
- Primary liaison with Banking and Risk for the Annual Franchise Review Assessments to ensure alignment of ICM to the Business Objectives
- Presents and discuss with KPIs of the ICM pillars with applicable Business leaders
- Partners with Business teams to make recommendations of composition of their portfolio
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in both 1LOD and 2LOD roles including managerial experience
- A broad and comprehensive understanding of the credit theories and practices relevant to wholesale lending as well as practical experience of multiple business cycles
- Senior Credit Officer initial is required
- Significant experience with regulatory remediation efforts and with transformation initiatives
- Fully conversant in credit policy matters with proven sound judgment
- Builds balanced, diverse leadership teams
- Excellent communication skills required in order to influence a wide range of audiences
- Experienced internal and external negotiations skills to ensure appropriate level of oversight on matters which have a major impact on the area managed, and possibly on other related areas and organization as a whole
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
