And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.As a Software Development Engineer (SDE II), you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and building innovative, scalable software solutions that enable AWS teams to make critical decisions about infrastructure planning and operations. You’ll work on complex distributed systems, creating tools and applications that improve data processing, visualization, and operational workflows to ensure excellence for AWS global infrastructure. Your work will directly impact AWS’s ability to deliver seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer (SDE II), you will:
- Use technologies such as Java, Python, and AWS services (e.g., Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Redshift) to develop back-end systems, APIs, and end-to-end workflows for data processing, visualization, and operational improvements.
- Contribute to integrating and optimizing existing solutions, support onboarding data from tools such as Tableau, and improve system performance and scalability.- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues while contributing to improving engineering best practices.
A day in the life
A day as an SDE II involves building and optimizing large-scale infrastructure systems. You might start with reviewing logs, debugging issues, and implementing new features to improve data processing. Throughout the day, you’ll engage in design reviews, collaborate with UX and product teams, and write clean, scalable code. You’ll test and deploy features, optimize AWS integrations (e.g., Lambda, DynamoDB), and automate workflows. The day wraps up with sprint planning, documentation, and aligning with stakeholders to ensure progress on high-impact projects. You’ll deliver scalable solutions that enhance AWS’s decision-making and operational efficiency.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- 3+ years of experience supporting and developing web-based user interfaces


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience in designing and optimizing web page infrastructure for high-performance, scalable, and resilient applications, including front-end caching strategies, and efficient resource loading techniques
