About this Role

This is an Executive Director role serving as the Site/System Reliability and Platform engineering manager of the team which supports the Research Technology platforms that are responsible for delivering the technology for JPMorgan’s award-winning Global Research division, comprising 850+ economists, analysts & strategists publishing 140,000+ Research insights per year covering 3,600+ companies and spanning 6 continents. In this role,you will be instrumental in leading and mentoring a dynamic global team tasked with developing innovative engineering solutions for operational challenges. Your role will involve developing observability and telemetry of the Research Tech applications, optimizing existing systems, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting automation to reduce workload.


Key responsibilities

  • Team leadership, people management and coaching, setting objectives and providing direction to the global team.
  • Lead the transformation of the existing team towards the adoption of SRE culture and practices
  • Escalation contact for all day-to-day issues impacting the plant - including being first point of contact for senior Technology and Business leaders within region.
  • Regular engagement with senior business and product stakeholders, software engineering managers and other stakeholders to resolve day-to-day issues impacting the application stack
  • Define the strategy and standards governing the stability, observability, resiliency and supportability of all platform components and functionality.
  • Identify toil reduction, cost saving, stability, observability and resiliency improvement opportunities in the platform and implement strategically engineered solutions to address them.
  • Establish and drive the governance of effective incident, problem, change and service management processes.
  • Document and share knowledge within your organization via internal forums and communities of practice

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills:

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 8+ years applied experience. In addition, 2 + years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and providing management updates to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in reliability, scalability, performance, security, enterprise system architecture, toil reduction, and other site reliability best practices with the ability to implement these practices within an application or platform
  • Fluency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, .Net, etc.
  • Deep knowledge of software applications and technical processes with emerging depth in one or more technical disciplines
  • Proficiency and experience in observability such as white and black box monitoring, SLO, error budget, alerting, and telemetry collection using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, etc.
  • Proficiency in continuous integration, continuous delivery and infrastructure management tools such as Jenkins, Jules, Spinnaker, BitBucket, GitLab, Terraform, etc.
  • Experience with container and container orchestration such as ECS, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Experience with one or more major database technologies
  • Drive to self-educate and evaluate new technology
  • One or more AWS certifications
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals

Beneficial Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience applying ITIL methodologies to Change, Incident and Problem management of a technology platform.
  • AWS Associate or Professional Certification
