Manufacturing IT Systems Engineer


As a Manufacturing Systems Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of software systems that integrate with the upper level manufacturing and business data systems and the lower level control systems used to manufacture 3M products
  • Leading and contributing to key transformational programs: Data Analytics, Connected/Digital Factory, Total Productive Maintenance, Equipment Reliability, Process Safety Management Technology
  • Supporting development and adoption of company best practices for software and process technologies to enable commercialization and value stream improvement. Support and champion user groups as required
  • Communicating project status and issues to the project stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and achievement of project milestones
  • Determining gaps in self-development and expand extensive high-level troubleshooting capabilities to provide tactical support for day-to-day manufacturing operations
  • Willingness to support weeknight and weekend escalation as needed through team on-call process

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Four (4) years of Systems Engineering/Analyst experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a four-year engineering degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university
  • Eight (8) years of Systems Engineering/Analyst experience
  • Passion for and experience in SMART Manufacturing, Data Automation, Industry 4.0, Connected Manufacturing
  • Team player with the ability to successfully meet project milestones in a matrix environment
  • Proven track record of performance in process improvement
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills including strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with robust system implementations and troubleshooting support
  • Experience with: Savigent Workflow Software, WonderWare, SEEQ, OSiPi, C# Programming with MS Visual Studio, REST APIs, UI development, database skills with SQL scripts and stored procedures, SQL reporting tools skills
