Job Description

Join our dynamic and collaborative team to support WD failure analysis requests from our customers. As an intern on the Failure Analysis team, you will play a crucial role in defining and documenting requirements for Machine Learning/AI projects, as well as assisting in their implementation. You will work closely with the local Failure Analysis (FA) team and other departments to drive project progress. This automation aims to optimize FA processes and improve turnaround times. Additionally, you will review existing failure analysis report formats to facilitate the automated generation of FA reports, which are essential for communicating key lab data and failure causes to customers, field application engineers, quality managers, manufacturing, and development teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and document requirements and business value for the Machine Learning / Large Language Models (LLM) / AI FA Summary Report Generation project, and assist in its implementation. The goal is to create FA summaries from detailed FA information, optimizing FA work and improving turnaround times.
  • Collaborate with the local FA team and other departments to drive project progress.
  • Review existing failure analysis report formats to serve as references for automating the generation of FA reports.
  • Assist with additional Machine Learning / AI projects as they become available.
  • Communicate results and status updates effectively with management and team members.
  • Participate in resolving product and customer issues by providing electrical analysis and meaningful insights.
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Current students seeking a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, data science, or related field with a graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026.
  • Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case to employ you at any point in the future required (for example, H-1B or other employment-based immigration case)
  • Candidates who will not require relocation to the San Jose, CA will be preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Data Analytics, Python, C++, SQL, and LLM (Large Language Models)

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
