What to Expect

The Body-in-White Process Engineer will be responsible for sustaining, optimizing, and redesigning manufacturing processes, tools, and fixtures. This role requires experience working hands-on in a production environment to fully achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery and cost targets, and internal customer requirements. This includes analysis & optimization of cycle time, process layout & design, ergonomics, and various other process-related influences. The Process Engineer assists the daily operation of every process, acting as the process leader across 4 shifts operating 24-7.

What You’ll Do
  • Analyze, design, and optimize new production processes to ensure safety while maximizing yield, capacity, and cost effectiveness to enable the build of world-class vehicles
  • Develop and modify existing line layouts, processes, and fixtures to improve material flow, waste reduction, value-stream mapping, and ergonomics by utilizing Lean Manufacturing best practices
  • Support the transition of a product from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing
  • Partner with Equipment Engineering to ensure equipment cycle time objectives are properly balanced by the needs of the production workforce
  • Project management: both internal maintenance projects, and major contractor projects
  • Support and assist Maintenance with troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures
  • Define a project’s scope, manage spend against the budget, coordinate with outside vendors, and oversee the installation of new equipment to ensure all requirements are met
  • Influence design engineers and production associates with recommendations to incorporate alternate vehicle design features or assembly techniques that enhance the manufacturability of the product
  • Spare part identification, cataloging and assignment of spare requirement
What You’ll Bring
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and optimizing process equipment, tools, fixtures, and instructions
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
  • Effective at communication and teamwork with all levels of an organization – especially skilled at working with direct labor to understand challenges and develop optimal solutions using structured methods
  • Drive cost savings by analyzing labor content allocations and implementing optimal solutions through line balancing. Sufficient in simulation skills to run & analyze model for equipment change recommendations
  • Experienced in MODAPTS analysis, Capacity improvement projects, and Flex Sim software
  • Strong mechanical intuition and extensive hands-on experience modifying jigs, fixtures, and coordinating equipment installations. Prior CNC or manual machining experience beneficial
  • Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
  • Experienced with AUTOCAD software or other factory layout tools
  • Experienced with CATIA v5, 6 or SolidWorks
