In this role you will define the end to end (generation, transmission, distribution, backup power) power strategy for scaling and operating AWS’ diverse, low-cost energy supply. You will manage multiple, large scale and technically complex power infrastructure projects across the North Eastern region of the US by facilitating close collaboration between both internal and external stakeholders.Within the overarching strategy, you must be resilient in exploring and discovering new supply opportunities (that delivery both near term capacity with an accelerated path to net-zero carbon supply), ultimately converting them into tactically sound and executable energy projects while working to reduce energy capital and operating expenses.Internally, responsibilities consist of implementing the defined strategy including reporting status, risks, mitigations and successes to C level and VP level leadership, as well as influencing multiple cross-functional partner teams in the overall data center capacity delivery business process.You will work in an integrated team to implement a strategy that meets and exceeds AWS’ energy program requirements while delivering projects on time, with tangible reliability and cost-saving results.Experience working with regulated electric utilities to develop, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, including related tariffs and supply agreements, is a must and a background in energy with a proven track record of developing and delivering on innovative energy projects is ideal.In this role, you will negotiate and execute power supply contracts across AWS regions and create innovative supply structures that integrate our renewable energy portfolio and Support the growth of clean energy via utility partnerships.By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.Key job responsibilities
• Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions.
• Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs. Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
• Work collaboratively with internal partners to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities
• Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon
• Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects
• Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet the business timelines.
• Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
• Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
• Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

•Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
•8+ years working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role
•5+ years of power transaction or contracting in the US energy markets, performing financial models and analysis on rates and energy cost, negotiation interconnection agreements and related contracts with utilities and contractors
•3+ years managing multiple million dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion
• Master’s Degree (MBA) preferred
• The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem solving skills
• Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc.
• Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators, particularly in the PJM region.
• Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services
