Job Summary

This internship is for an OS Development Intern to contribute to the enhancement of NetApp’s proprietary operating system, ONTAP, based on FreeBSD. The intern will work closely with the development team, understanding the existing ONTAP architecture and exploring the kernel networking stack. The primary responsibilities include designing and implementing features to improve simplicity and quality of the networking stack. Proficiency in C, C++, and Python is a must, along with a basic understanding of operating system kernel architecture and networking protocols.

Technical Scope: As an intern, you will work in one or more of the following areas:

  • C, C++, and Python Development: Proficiency in these programming languages is essential. You will be involved in developing and optimizing system-level code.
  • Linux/Unix Systems: Familiarity with Linux or Unix-like operating systems is essential. Experience with FreeBSD is ideal, but knowledge of other Unix-based systems is also valuable.
  • REST APIs: You will design and implement RESTful APIs to allow customers to configure and manage networking parameters. Understanding REST API principles and best practices is crucial.
  • AI for Data Management: You will explore and integrate AI-based techniques to enhance data management processes. This includes using machine learning algorithms to analyze and predict system performance, optimize data storage, and improve overall system efficiency.
Job Requirements
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python programming languages.
  • Basic knowledge of operating system kernel architecture.
  • Familiarity with FreeBSD or Unix-like operating systems is ideal.
  • Understanding of basic networking protocols and debugging tools.
  • Experience with REST API design and implementation.
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning concepts and interest in their application in data management.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

• This internship opportunity is perfect for 3rd-year students seeking a 6-8 month internship as part of their degree program

• Happy to come into the Cork office a minimum of twice a week as part of our hybrid work culture.
